Vasep: No COVID-19 infections at shrimp and pangasius processing factories in the Mekong Delta

Currently, seafood enterprises are still ensuring good COVID-19 prevention measures at factories and localities. Production and export activities are still stable.

The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said that in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to develop complicatedly and tending to spread in some localities in the country and Ho Chi Minh City, shrimp and pangasius processing and exporting enterprises in the Mekong Delta have been strictly implementing the "5k" motto of the Ministry of Health. Therefore, up to now, no workers or laborers working at shrimp and pangasius processing enterprises in the Mekong Delta have been infected with COVID-19.

Learning from the experience of some localities in the epicenter of the pandemic that have suffered great consequences due to the impact of COVID-19 when many businesses and industrial zones had to stop operating, greatly affecting not only the production and business situation but also disrupting the supply chain of goods worldwide. Shrimp and pangasius processing and exporting enterprises in the Mekong Delta must be more vigilant and have more measures to focus on protecting the health of workers and employees working in factories.

Many enterprises have also proactively guided and equipped workers and employees with knowledge and skills, and provided good support for COVID-19 prevention and control to ensure both maintaining stable production and business and ensuring epidemic prevention safety.

Recently, VASEP and seafood enterprises have also proposed to the Government to be given priority access to vaccines for workers in member enterprises and committed to joining hands with the Government on the budget for vaccination.

Rapid deployment of COVID-19 vaccines for workers and employees is the top choice for businesses to minimize risks, avoid unnecessary losses and maintain stable production and business.

By the end of May 2021, the total export value of Vietnam's seafood reached 3.27 billion USD, up 13.8% over the same period last year. Of which, the export value of shrimp reached 1.31 billion USD, up 11.8%; the export value of pangasius reached 637.8 million USD, up 14.7%; and tuna reached 291.5 million USD, up 21% over the same period in 2020.
