On the morning of July 6, in Hanoi, the Directorate of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) held a conference to review the work in the first 6 months of the year and deploy tasks for the last 6 months of 2021.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung, Deputy Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries, said: In the first 6 months of 2021, the total seafood output is estimated at 4.1 million tons, up 3% over the same period in 2020, of which the output of aquatic exploitation reached 2 million tons (up 1%), and the output of aquaculture reached 2.1 million tons (up 4%). The total seafood export turnover in the first 6 months of the year is estimated at 4 billion USD, up 13.6% over the same period and reaching 47.1% of the plan.

The fisheries sector has set a target for the whole year of 2021, with a total aquatic output of 8.6 million tons (exploitation 3.85 million tons; aquaculture 4.75 million tons, of which pangasius 1.55 million tons; brackish water shrimp 943 thousand tons), and an export turnover of 8.5 billion USD.
In addition to the achievements in recent times, our country's fisheries sector still shows limitations and shortcomings, such as the high post-harvest loss rate for exploited aquatic products. This not only reduces the economic efficiency of fishermen but also affects the quality of aquatic products.

Mr. Nguyen Hoai Nam, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Processors and Exporters, said: The export performance of Vietnam's fisheries sector in the first 6 months of 2021 is very positive. Currently, Vietnam's shrimp export market share is leading the world. Most products have grown quite well.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien emphasized: In the coming time, the fisheries sector will continue to reduce the number of fishing vessels and reduce fishing output, especially inshore fishing to conserve aquatic resources, while continuing to step up efforts to overcome illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing to remove the EC's "yellow card," contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnam's fisheries industry.
