On July 15th, at the Hung Yen Province Convention Center, the "Conference on connecting supply and demand, consumption of longan and agricultural products of Hung Yen province in 2021" took place in a combination of direct and online form. Including leaders of relevant departments and 72 connecting points, of which 12 connecting points were in provinces and cities in the country and 60 connecting points were in other countries and territories.

The conference was organized on a large scale under the coordination of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the People's Committee of Hung Yen province.

 

According to the report, Hung Yen province in 2021 had a bumper crop of agricultural products, of which longan reached about 55,000 tons, oranges 30,000 tons, and bananas 70,850 tons… Under the negative impact of the diseases, the consumption of longan and agricultural products of the province is facing many difficulties. Anticipating this situation, from the beginning of the year, the People's Committee of Hung Yen province coordinated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to develop a plan to organize activities to promote the consumption of agricultural products for cooperatives, businesses, and farmers in the province. Among these activities was the "Conference to Connect Supply and Demand for Longan and Agricultural Products Consumption in Hung Yen in 2021," which brought together 72 domestic and foreign connecting points. The following, a number of other consumption promotion events will be implemented, such as: Longan Week-Hung Yen Agricultural Products 2021 in Hanoi; coordinating to promote longan-Hung Yen agricultural products at tourism promotion events; introducing Hung Yen culture at the Octagon House-Walking Street area (Hanoi) in response to National Tourism Year 2021; Hung Yen Orange Market 2021; Orange Week and typical agricultural products of Hung Yen province 2021 in Hanoi...

Stating at the conference, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai, representative of the state management agency—the unit coordinating with the People's Committee of Hung Yen province to organize the event—highly appreciated the participation of many partner agencies in this event and affirmed: "More than 50,000 tons of Hung Yen longan is not a large quantity, and today's conference is not only for the purpose of consuming this output, but more importantly, even for the longan output of Hung Yen province and the surrounding provinces of Hung Yen, there is an even larger quantity. The most important thing is that we must bring to the international market products that ensure quality so that in the following years we can have a brand and more sustainable and fundamental consumption compared to the measures we are taking now".

At the US connecting point, Mr. Bui Huy Son, Minister counselor, Vietnam Trade Office in the US, shared: Vietnam has been licensed to export six types of fresh fruit to the US. Other types of fruit are exported in processed form. Government agencies of both sides are negotiating for the US to grant additional export licenses for fresh fruit from Vietnam. However, Vietnamese fruit in the US market is facing fierce competition. To sustainably export fruit to this market, Mr. Bui Huy Son said: Domestic enterprises and importers should study appropriate payment methods to avoid risks; rent cold storage to preserve and ensure the quality of fresh fruit; proactively update information on the US market; persistently supply products to large distribution systems; only organic products can ensure competitiveness and sustainable export." The US market currently favors instant products; fruit needs to be cut into small pieces, packed in trays, with forks and spoons to serve immediately to consumers."

Also at the conference, a number of representatives of trade agencies, foreign agricultural export distribution enterprises, and representatives of a number of state management agencies, a number of provinces, and trade counselors gave presentations highlighting the potential of foreign markets and advantages of Vietnamese agricultural products, including longan in Hung Yen; the situation of agricultural markets in a number of countries; challenges and opportunities for agricultural exports; and a number of solutions to increase agricultural exports in the international market...

Expressing gratitude and accepting comments at the connecting points to promote the consumption of longan and agricultural products of the province, Mr. Nguyen Huu Nghia, Member of CPV Central Committee, Hung Yen’s Provincial Party secretary, affirmed: In the coming time, Hung Yen will continue to synchronously intergrate practical and effective solutions in the production, distribution, and consumption of longan and agricultural products of the province, serving well the trade and consumption of longan and agricultural products in the 2021 crop year and the following crops. "We are ready to support and create the most favorable conditions for domestic and foreign enterprises, organizations, and traders to access business opportunities and participate in signing contracts to buy and sell longan and agricultural products. Especially with the markets of the US, Europe, Australia, and Asia, especially Guangxi and Yunnan provinces (China), we hope to strengthen cooperation and business exchanges to promote and expand the consumption of longan and agricultural products for Hung Yen farmers," Mr. Nguyen Huu Nghia expected.

At the conference, representatives of Hung Yen province, central ministries, branches, and enterprises started up the "Program to bring Hung Yen longan and agricultural products to e-commerce platforms," signed a cooperation agreement to support bringing Hung Yen longan and agricultural products to e-commerce platforms, signed a cooperation agreement on longan consumption between enterprises and cooperatives, and longan growers, and cut the ribbon to bring Hung Yen longan into the distribution system.
