According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, nearly 50 tons of vegetables and fruits are sold through e-commerce platforms every day.
Immediately after Ho Chi Minh City implemented social distancing according to Directive 16, the Vietnam E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency sent an urgent dispatch to major e-commerce platforms, requesting them to increase their supply sources and develop essential sales programs to ensure that the supply of goods in the Ho Chi Minh City area is not disrupted.
E-commerce platforms quickly implemented programs such as "Going to the market at home"; "Supporting Saigon - Tiki to deliver fresh and delicious food" by Tiki; "Stabilizing food" by Shopee... to join hands to ensure supply and stabilize prices for the Ho Chi Minh City market, especially fresh food, food, food products...
Nearly 50 tons of vegetables and fruits are consumed through e-commerce platforms every day.
In the early stages of implementation, the stages of organizing goods, preparing sources of goods and transporting goods really encountered many difficulties and were restricted in movement, the number of orders increased but the stages of transportation and delivery could not meet the demand due to the social distancing situation in the areas. However, with the direction of the Government, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Central Ministries and Ho Chi Minh City authorities, the programs implemented by e-commerce platforms are gradually stabilizing and having positive results, bringing real values to consumers in epidemic areas.
According to data updated to July 20, 2021, Tiki platform recorded about 10 tons of vegetables and fruits and 10,000 orders/day for essential goods, essential consumer products on Shopee increased sharply by about 30 tons/day or Lazada platform, the average output is 5-10 tons/day for green vegetables and processed foods. Thus, about 50 tons of vegetables and food are consumed through these e-commerce platforms every day.
In particular, the e-commerce platform Sendo has coordinated with operators to create combos of vegetables and fruits delivered immediately, fresh meat every day applying the fast delivery method in Ho Chi Minh City; fresh food products are fully supplied and consumed very quickly every day. In addition, platforms such as Tiki, Shopee or Lazada with similar fresh foods are also consumed quickly and continue to search for more sources of supply to ensure quality and stable prices for people.
Thanks to the advantage of logistics, the e-commerce platform Voso and Postmart have organized both online and offline price stabilization sales, ensuring transportation to each quarantine area or direct sales at Viettel Post, Vietnam Post, and commune cultural post offices in provinces and cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Vung Tau, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, etc.
More than 150 tons of vegetables and fruits have been consumed at 34 mobile sales points in 20 districts in Ho Chi Minh City (as of July 17). The number of orders on Voso continues to increase. Viettel Post and VoSo will continue to increase the amount of imported goods, expected to be 60-80 tons/day, ensuring supply and price stabilization for the Ho Chi Minh City market. Ho Chi Minh City residents can easily look up Voso's mobile sales points by searching for "Voso price stabilization points" on Google Maps, or ordering on the Voso application.
It is known that in the early stages of implementation, e-commerce platforms encountered difficulties in transporting goods due to travel restrictions. The number of orders increased, but the transportation and delivery process could not meet the demand due to the social distancing situation in the areas.
However, e-commerce platforms have made efforts to find the most reasonable solution for supply and transportation in epidemic areas. In addition, with the support of the Vietnam of E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency and units under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the supply and consumption of goods in Ho Chi Minh City and epidemic areas are always guaranteed to be timely, with quality goods and reasonable prices for consumers.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huyen, Deputy Director of the Vietnam of E-commerce, organizing distribution through traditional channels and reopening traditional markets is extremely important. In the context of the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, e-commerce channels are contributing to supporting traditional distribution channels, helping people to shop conveniently at home and minimizing the risk of infection.
“The Ministry of Industry and Trade's Frontline Task Force in Ho Chi Minh City is focusing on removing difficulties and ensuring the supply of essential goods for people in Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces. The Vietnam of E-commerce and Digital Economy Angency continues to join hands with e-commerce platforms to organize and ensure the supply of goods, including bringing them from the Central and Northern regions to the South,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huyen.
