Food stores are small in size and do not have storage facilities, so if many people buy goods at the same time, it will cause disruptions or local shortages in Ho Chi Minh City.
Large supermarkets do not increase prices
The Ho Chi Minh City Press Center has just updated information on the situation of the goods distribution system throughout Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Nguyen Nguyen Phuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said that there are currently 169 markets (including 3 wholesale markets) and 4 supermarkets temporarily closed in the area.
People in the area of Bui Van Ba Street, Tan Thuan Dong Ward, District 7 go to pick up goods ordered from supermarkets
Of which, 4 supermarkets are temporarily closed due to Covid-19 infections, traditional markets are assessed by local authorities according to safety criteria and required to temporarily close.
The suspension of markets has greatly affected the supply of goods to people. The supply of goods in some places is locally lacking, mainly fresh food.
The Department has implemented many measures, however, due to the complicated situation of Covid-19 epidemic prevention in localities and raw material areas, localities have increased the application of epidemic prevention measures, leading to many difficulties in transporting goods.
Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Nguyen Phuong affirmed that the shortage of goods only occurs at small food stores, especially convenience stores. With the characteristics of small store areas and no warehouses to store goods, many people buying goods at a time will cause disruptions or local shortages.
Regarding information shared by people on the online community about some products having too high prices, for example, a cabbage costs more than 200,000 VND, the Department of Industry and Trade said that in some supermarket systems, there are special products, imported goods with high prices to serve people's needs; leading to people being easily confused by the increase in prices.
In addition, large distribution systems compete fiercely, and it is difficult for large systems to increase prices on their own.
In addition, to control the price of goods, the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City has sent a force to monitor and closely follow the market price situation and supply of goods, promptly handling any arising situations.
The Department also coordinates with the Market Management Department to remind cases of hoarding, signs of hoarding goods, and punish violations.
Goods transit points will be deployed with strict operating conditions
Ho Chi Minh City plans to issue shopping vouchers to 16,000 poor households to go to supermarkets to buy items according to actual needs.
Accordingly, instead of receiving gift packages of necessities, this will help people choose the items that are lacking in their families.
Regarding the retail system, these systems are currently operating at full capacity. The city has mobilized logistics units to support retail chains of goods for neighborhoods where traditional markets have been temporarily suspended.
There are currently 169 markets (including 3 wholesale markets) and 4 supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City that are temporarily suspended
For the mobile price stabilization program, on July 11, the city deployed 8 mobile sales vehicles, and on July 12, it will increase to 30 support vehicles at the request of each district when needed.
The items on the vehicles include food taken from factories through the Food and Food Association and the supply of vegetables, tubers, and fruits from the provinces.
The Department of Industry and Trade said it will increase the number of vehicles each day by mobilizing local volunteers.
Viettel's mail trucks and transportation services will also participate in the stabilization program. On July 12, the above enterprise put into operation 32 points of sale for people, contributing to supporting retail points in the area.
It is expected that in the coming time, Viettel's vehicles will travel to all provinces and cities and bring goods to supply to Ho Chi Minh City.
Regarding the "online market" and "love market" programs, after the pilot period in Hoc Mon and Binh Tan, this program will be deployed more widely in the city.
Along with that, the city has deployed a goods transit point at the container yard next to Thu Duc wholesale market with strict operating conditions.
This will be the place to gather vegetables, tubers, fruits, and seafood from provinces and cities before being divided into small quantities to supply to retail points in the city.
In the coming time, the City will have many plans to supply food to low-income people at mobile sales points to both ensure epidemic prevention and meet the essential needs of local people.
