COVID-19 outbreak: Record low number of flights, unprecedentedly quiet aviation

The COVID-19 outbreak has caused the number of flights and passengers to decrease significantly in recent days, averaging only 11 flights per day.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that the number of flights and passengers has decreased sharply in recent days. Accordingly, today, July 27, Vietnamese airlines operated a total of 11 flights and transported 877 passengers. The Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route alone had only one flight departing from Noi Bai with a total of 126 passengers.

Vietnamese aviation has fallen into an unprecedentedly quiet situation due to COVID-19.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, there are currently only a few routes in operation nationwide, including flights from Hanoi to Cam Ranh, Da Nang, Pleiku and Ho Chi Minh City.

Meanwhile, from Ho Chi Minh City, there are currently only flights to and from Da Nang, Buon Ma Thuot, and Pleiku. Notably, during the time Ho Chi Minh City applies enhanced Directive 16, domestic flights carrying passengers will not be licensed after 5:00 p.m. every day.

According to records, on July 25, only Vietnam Airlines operated 17 flights and transported 1,299 passengers.

Of these, there were 11 flights to and from Hanoi with a total of 788 passengers. Of which, 6 flights departed from Hanoi with 295 passengers and 5 flights arrived in Hanoi with 493 passengers.

The total number of flights to Ho Chi Minh City was 7 with 619 passengers, of which 3 flights departed from Tan Son Nhat with 388 passengers and 4 flights arrived at Tan Son Nhat with 231 passengers.

The Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route only had 1 flight from Noi Bai to Tan Son Nhat with 108 passengers.

Similarly, on July 26, the number of flights operated by domestic airlines was 18 with a total of 1,483 passengers. Of which, there were 6 flights from Noi Bai with 295 passengers and 5 flights to Noi Bai with 493 passengers.

The total number of flights to Ho Chi Minh City was 8 with 803 passengers, of which 4 flights departed from Tan Son Nhat with a total of 572 passengers and 4 flights arrived at Tan Son Nhat with a total of 231 passengers.

The Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route only had one flight with 108 passengers from Noi Bai to Tan Son Nhat.

Notably, this morning Bamboo Airways announced the suspension of regular commercial flights until August 7.
