In 2021, units under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development deployed the development of 307 standards and regulations on agricultural product quality and food safety. As a result, by July 2021, the Ministry had submitted for promulgation 4 regulations in the field of aquaculture. At the same time, it announced and proposed to announce 39 standards, and accepted and proposed to appraise 68 other standards.

According to statistics by July 2021, the agriculture and rural development sector had 1,169 standards and 227 regulations. In particular, in the field of agricultural material management, agricultural product quality and food safety, there are currently 402 standards and 32 regulations. Up to now, all groups of products under the management responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development have standards and regulations to apply.

Director of the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Product Quality Management (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) Nguyen Quoc Toan said that the completion of standards and regulations is a very important task. These are considered tools and "measures" to support State management in the field of food safety.

However, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Toan also frankly acknowledged that the application validity of some standards and regulations issued today is quite short. Some standards and regulations after being announced and issued for less than 3 years must be reviewed and revised because they are not consistent with newly issued laws, Government resolutions and international agreements.

In the coming time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said it will focus on reviewing and completing procedures to abolish 143 standards on testing and food hygiene and safety conditions for agricultural production and trading establishments. The goal is to simplify regulations related to production and business activities according to Resolution No. 68/NQ-CP dated May 12, 2020 of the Government.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will also approach in a harmonized manner with the regional standards system and standards of international organizations, to ensure integration in the development of the agricultural product market.
