Avian influenza strain appears for the first time in Vietnam

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Ninh province said that the test results of all 3 chicken samples were positive for the A/H5N8 avian influenza virus.

A/H5N8 is the first strain of influenza to appear in Vietnam

Previously, on June 29, Mr. Nguyen Huy Long's chicken farm (Bai Cat village, Vu Oai commune, Ha Long city) had a situation of scattered chicken deaths. On June 30, this chicken farm had 200 chickens die. Immediately after that, the Ha Long City Agricultural Technical Service Center took samples for testing and the results were positive for the A/H5N8 avian influenza virus.

A/H5N8 is the first strain of influenza to appear in Vietnam. According to Mr. Tran Xuan Dong, Head of the Provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, the danger level of the A/H5N8 flu strain is that it not only kills poultry but can also spread to humans without leaving symptoms.

If the infected person has an underlying medical condition, the disease will develop. If the person is healthy and has good resistance, the pathogen will not develop but will remain in the body and develop, mutate, and continue to mutate, potentially creating dangerous disease strains in humans, including diseases that can spread from person to person.

The world has recorded outbreaks of the A/H5N8 flu strain in a number of countries. In 2020, this flu strain was recorded at many chicken farms in Russia, and 7 Russians tested positive for the A/H5N8 avian influenza virus and became ill due to infection from infected poultry.

Currently, functional units are urgently implementing measures to isolate and contain the epidemic at the outbreak site in Bai Cat village, Vu Oai commune, Ha Long city, and at the same time resolutely preventing the risk of the epidemic spreading.
