The Vietnam Trade Office in Australia said that the Australian market is boosting ginger imports. The Trade Office predicts that Australian ginger import turnover this year may reach over 100 billion VND.
In order to diversify agricultural products and find room for export development, the program to build brands and promote the consumption of spice agricultural products has been researched and implemented by the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia.
Through market surveys since January 2021, the Trade Office found that fresh ginger in Australia sometimes reached over 50 AUD/1 kg (about 850,000 VND/1 kg). In particular, the Australian market is boosting ginger imports. The Trade Office predicts that Australian ginger import turnover this year may reach over 100 billion VND.
Australia has not opened its market to fresh ginger from Vietnam. Previously, Vietnamese frozen ginger was exported to Australia in small quantities and was not known to consumers.
The Trade Office found that Vietnamese frozen ginger retains its original flavor and is completely capable of conquering the market.
Communication activities were deployed to stores, supermarkets, and especially the restaurant system with the message that Vietnamese frozen ginger has a unique flavor and is affordable.
In addition, to attract attention and enhance the brand value of Vietnamese ginger, the Trade Office proposed that the Organizing Committee of the Community Golf Tournament in Parramatta agree to advertise Vietnamese ginger at the hole-in-one hole with a prize worth 10,000 AUD (about 170 million VND—Prize sponsored by the Organizing Committee; the Trade Office does not incur any costs).

After the first 4 months of 2021, Vietnamese ginger exports to Australia increased by 1350% over the same period, reaching more than 348,000 USD.
Currently, frozen Vietnamese ginger is not only sold in supermarkets and stores but also sold online. The price of frozen Vietnamese ginger in Australia is about 9-13 AUD/1 kg. Ginger is packaged in half a kilo or 1 kg, mainly for restaurants. The trade office is asking export enterprises to package smaller packages of about 250 grams to meet the consumption needs of families.
